One of my favourite grounding/mindfulness techniques is the very easy 54321:
Name 5 things you can see
4 things you can feel
3 things you can hear
2 things you can smell
1 thing you can taste
At this time of year we need to take a little time aside for some mindful moments to ground ourselves and allow our distress levels to decrease amidst the busyness.
With everything around at Christmas there are plenty things that impact our senses. So grab yourself a brew and take a mindful moment to do a Christmas 54321. Here's mine:
See - Sparkly lights, beautiful colours on my cat Pickle's coat, Christmas card pictures (take time to really look at them before you put them on the shelf), textures on the Christmas tree and a decoration from when I was a little girl.
Feel - The warmth of my mug, the sofa beneath me, the fluffy socks on my feet and Pickle's soft fur.
Hear - Christmas songs on the radio, the sound of my children being home for Christmas from uni and the purring cat
Smell - the chai spices in my latte and scented candles
Taste - my tasty chai latte.
Wishing you all the best at Christmas and look after yourselves.
