New Term anxieties

This week I've been helping some students with anxieties they have about the new term.

It's important to realise that all of us - adults included - have some concerns or anxieties when returning to school or work after a break. This is a normal part of life. The trick is to try and dial down the anxiety from, say, an 8 to a 3.

Acknowledging anxiety in a situation is important - eg 'I'm worried about my new classes - I don't know who is in my new food tech class'

However, we can then dial that down to 'It's normal to have some worries - it's a new situation. Lots of people will feel the same. I'm sure I'll get to know the new students soon - I've done it before'

Due to the fact that our brain can swerve to the negative much more, it's really important to get those positives in there! Make a list of all the positives - even if it is as follows:

1. I've only got 2 years left in school 2. I've got Art which is less writing for me and I enjoy it 3. I've got Mr Davies for Drama and I like him

Whatever your stage of school - I wish you all the best for the new term.
